I need to change out a service panel and found that the 2 motors for inground pool are not on GFI breakers. Should they be on GFI breakers. Pool motors are Approx. 20' away from inside wall of pool.

Re: Swimming Pool Pump Motors

Article 680-22a(5) says if the pumps are provided by rec and rated 15A or 20A 120v-240v single phase has to be GFI protected. What if they are hardwired.

680.32 says ALL ELECTRIC EQUIPMENT used with pools require GFCI. Even if the code did'nt require it the safe thing to do is to install CGFI anyway.

Re: Swimming Pool Pump Motors

Prior to 2002 code GFI protection on pool pumps was not required. If it is existing I don't see a problem with leaving it as is. Hard wired pumps do not need GFI protection, only outlets for pool pumps.
