I have a customer who moved the pool pump further away from the pool. He did all the work himself and I checked behind him. He did not connect the bond wire back to the motor because it was to short and the inspector told him that he could splice the bond wire. What type of splice should I use in this situation?

Re: swimming poolo bond

wayne123, the only place the code requires irreversible connections is on a Grounding Electrode Conductor, for taps or splices.

You could certainly use one for pool bonding but it is not a code requirement.

A split bolt would meet code.

Hello Wayne,

(2002 NEC)
680.26(C)Common Bonding Grid. ... Connection shall be made by exothermic welding or by pressure connectors or clamps that are labeled as being suitable for the purpose and are of stainless steel, brass, copper, or copper alloy.

Because you always carry a code book on the job(?), you can show the inspector this reference and that is that!

Greaves makes connectors suitable for pools.

Good luck,

Pierre
