I've been asked by the homeowners association at a nearby development if I am willing and able to "do their swimming pool grounding and inspection every 5 years per state code." I don't know anything about this, but I'd hate to turn it down. Are any NJ EC's familiar with this? If so, do I need any special credentials other than my contractors license?
Thanks for any info....

Read art. 680 about 20 times and do a search for threads on swimming pools. I would also advise you to find a book on art 680. Perhaps the handbook, etc. would be enough.

Dennis
This is an interesting statement.
Are you aware of any books published that are written about pools/pool wiring?

I observed what I think was a pool grounding test when I was staying at a hotel once. It looked like they were just probing metal things and the interiors of deck boxes with an ohm-meter with long leads. I'd be interested in learning what's really involved with an existing pool grounding inspection, and to know if there's any literature on the topic.

I think mr holt did an article 680 tape or dvd (?) At any rate, if you locate one let me know, I'm starting a hotel job and I haven't done a pool until now so I guess I'm in for it lol

Psst' Don't tell Dennis yet, but ECM Books, has published a book on Pools and code related info. It is based on the 2002 NEC but it is pretty good. It is also the only book devoted to pool wiring I have found.
That book, the handbook, Mike Holts stuff and the NEC should be good help.

I heard that.....

I had seen or read about a book on pools before but it was a while ago. Perhaps that was the one.

thanks for the link and info pierre (you can pm me obscenities anytime you like - you earned it  )

Thanks Infinity and Pierrre for the links. They were helpful. I'm still hoping for suggestions on testing procedures I might use during these inspections. I'm betting my fluke meter will not be adequate....
