Switch controls other room

Redoing paneled bedroom. Removed paneling and found a covered wall switch just inside door. switchbox contains two armored cables. One with a white and black wire the other with a white, black and red wire. The black wires were connected together with a wire nut. The white wires were also connected with a wire nut. the red wire was capped with a nut also.
I connected a single pole switch to the two black wires and the switch operated not only the ceiling fan in the bedroom but the kitchen and bathroom lights. Don't know how to proceed from here. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
