I recently got several of these for a job and realized after I received them that they do not have "ON" and "OFF" stamped on the cover. (It turns out they only stamp them when you get it packaged with a single pole switch.)

This is a nit-picky concern, so I figured this would be a great place to post it! :)

404.7 says the "General-use...switches..shall clearly indicate whether they are in the open (off) or closed (on) position." Now...the switches I'll be using of course have "on" and "off" stamped on the toggle. But you couldn't see the switch with this cover. But 404 doesn't say the cover has to clearly indicate. But...

The AHJ on this job can be pretty tough, so I'm returning these for ones with markings. Just thought I'd see what others have to say. Is the UP position = ON good enough?

I attached a photo, and I can see it. ?? It is the type of metallic weatherproof switch cover with a hinged metallic lever to operate the switch. (The kind you typically have to use with spacers between the switch and the plate.)
jim, That's a fair point. In my case, they're just light switches--doubtful to ever be guessed as double-throw.
BTW, the unmarked ones are important/useful for 3-way applications.

I don't think it is intended that general use snap switches necessarily need to follow the same rules in all cases as other switches or circuit breakers.

Look at the typical Decora style switches - they are not indicating. Same or other many other miniature switch types.

This was my first thought as well. My other thought involved the Sharpie in my pocket.
