scenario is that the run to our electrical room is too far from poco transformer moving the trans would be too expensive so we are going to install the 800 amp switchgear midway between electrical room in new structure and the poco transformer want to make sure I bond correctly at the switchgear and the panels in the new structure will I need a ufer at both locations? can someone direct me to the proper code to study for wire & ufer size and for any other bonding requirements. TIA

What is the distance and who came up with the regulation?

190 ft from xfmr to elec room poco states VD is an issue if they move the xfmr owner pays

So if you put the switchgear 1/2 in the middle that's gonna change the VD how? 190' is a very short distance for a service drop in the real world.

there stating VD and wont budge. From the switch gear my wire to elec room so I size the wire per 310.16 I dont understand why they dont just up their wire size to deal with VD at any rate I still am unclear on bonding?

Ufer and main bonding jumper will be at the switchgear. Everything south of that will be subpanels. VD happens across the entire system from the transformer to the load being served. The switchgear in the middle is not going to change that unless your going to drop some off at the switchgear. Me thinks you need an engineer.

yes there is a 200 amp load being sent back to a panel that is existing about ten ft from the transformer

normbac - out of curiosity, why does poco care about what you do on the secondary side of their transformer?

Sounds like they want to keep their wiring short to minimize the Vdrop and hence their cost and make you/the owner upsize your portion of the wiring to account for Vdrop.
