Art. 404.8 (A) - Center of the grip when its highest position - 6'7" above the working platform
I understand the code, I understand the requirement. What I want to know is if there is a significance to this height. Most every dimension I have seen in the NEC is given in feet or 1/2 foot. Ground rods 6' apart. Vertical clearances for services - 10', 12', 15, 18', 24 1/2'. Did someone propose 6' 6" and someone else say "I think it needs to be an inch higher"???? I'm not complaining by any means here. I'm just wondering if there is a particular reason for that particular height to be chosen. Enquiring minds want to know.

I’ve read the average standing overhead reach is 1.33h.
79/1.33 is 59.
My final answer is the 6’7” is there so ppl under 5 ft tall can access without help.
