switch loop-marking grounded wire

section 404.2(A) states that all switching shall be done only in the ungrounded circuit conductor for 3/4-way swithcing.

Where in the code does it talk about the marking of the neutral, used as a switch leg, for a single pole switch?

any help would be appreciated

Re: switch loop-marking grounded wire

Mac, think of it, not as "using the neutral", but more as "using the white wire".

Re: switch loop-marking grounded wire

200.7(C)(2) is another code requirement that the state of Massachusetts has revised to read as follows...

200.7(C)(2)Revise the last sentence to read as follows:

In these applications reidentification of the conductor with white or gray insulation or with three white stripes shall not be required.

If these DIYers don't understand the long used practice of useing the white wire for an ungrounded conductor in a switch loop, then they shouldn't be in there in the first place...

Re: switch loop-marking grounded wire

did i read that right? there is no need to re identify the white conductor if it is the return from the switch, only if it is the supply to the switch.

Re: switch loop-marking grounded wire

JbWhite, You cannot use the white as a return from the switch, whether or not you re-identify it. It can only be re-identified and used to feed the switch, not to return.
