Re: switchboard clearence

That depends on what is in front of it (or what would be behind you, as you stood in front looking at it). It also depends on whether it is likely to ?require examination, adjustment, servicing, or maintenance while energized.? I believe that the phrase ?dead front? does not mean that there is no energized bare metal that you can get to from the front, but rather that there is no energized bare metal that you can get to from the front with the doors closed. Perhaps I?m wrong on that point. But the answer lies in NEC 110.26, and the most frequent answer would be three and one half feet.

36".

42" and 48" apply only to 480volt equipment.

EDIT: To more technicaly acurate, 42" and 48" only apply to equipment exceeding 150V to ground.

The most frequent situation that I routinely encounter would be 42" for a 480V system. But Ryan is right, and I stand corrected. For your situation, 36" is the minimum.
