 hey guys, I was wondering what the code is for a dwelling as you come in the door of a room what is the max distance that a switch for lights can be away from the door? One more thing, when strapping mc cable is it legal to use a one hole strap as a mechanical connection to the wall and then use a black tie wrap or steel tie wire around that one hole strap to secure a bundle of mc cables running in a wall as a means of strapping and support?

Re: switches and strapping

There is no requirments in the NEC as to where the location of lighting outlet switches are to be located. Check for local and ADA codes.

Again, I would leave this up to the AHJ as to whether or not your suggested securing method is acceptable. Otherwise, if done in a neat and workmanlike manner, I don't see a direct code section prohibiting this.

Re: switches and strapping

thanks for the reply, it had crossed my mind to look at the ada requirements and the handicap codes, you are probably correct, it is most likely a ahj situation, i will look into it.

Re: switches and strapping

We used to have a 6 ft rule but that went away years ago.As long as there is a switch to control a light it is ok even motion sensors fit the bill :D

Re: switches and strapping

Its ok to tie mc to the top of a rediron truss and it is ok to zip tie nm or mc to a stand off as long as you dont bundle.

Re: switches and strapping

If there is a furring strip we use caddy cj6 just needs a little rebending to deal with the 3/4 inch strip.Fast cheap and easy
