Hello every, I'm working on a small warehouse project and I'm trying to switch about 4 MH fixtures that is powered from an inverter system, the rest of the lights will be controlled by time clock (via lighting contactor) and a switches. The problem is I don't want to leave the emergency light on all the time. What is the best and the cleanest way to control those lights?

Thanks in advance....

You need to be careful here as no matter how you plan to switch them they must come on during an outage.

The easiest way is to use a normally closed contactor.

Do they have re-strike lamps in them.

I could order those fixtures with re-strike lamps in them, but if I use contactor, is there any special requirment such as UL listing to be used for emergency power? Thanks again

MH Lamps

MH Lamps

what I have found uitilizing MH lamps in emergency life safety situtations is to provide a quartz re-strike lamp this will provide lighting while the lamps hot re-strikes using electronic ballasts you might be able to be full on in a couple minnutes if the inverter ever fails the inverter should be able to provide automatic transfer tho if it is rated for HID fixtures and UL 924 listed, if you do not want them to burn 24/7 you can always use a UL 924 ballast load transfer device in conjuction with a lighitng contactor I believe that Bodine and a company called nine 24 make these for HID fixtures UL 924 listed more important if you have a quartz re-strike lamp make sure to calculate the additional wattage when figuring the total fixture wattage / VA in your load schedule as they will bolth be operating at the same time for a period of time.
