Switching Neutrals

Dealing with a conflict of opinion. Does the NEC state that the neutral cannot be switched except in auto. transfer systems? I believe that it does but can't find where in the NEC.

You can switch the neutral if you switch the ungrounded conductors at the same time.

Why you would want to I have no idea, other than a transfer switch.

there was a very good reason to do that but i cannot recall what it was. maybe someone else would know.

johnp I just saw your other post about switching the neutral on motor starters.

I do not believe 404.2(B) applies to this as it is common practice.

I understand the neutral must be disconnected in the emergency shut off for gasoline dispensers.
