Hello everyone, I have a project going on in Hawaii, where I have to either repair an old outdated power/control panel for a car parklift garage or replace all of the control panel components(the choice I prefer to do). however I need some info on these outdated PLC's that I can't find called SY/MAX 50's I do know that they are some version of square d, schneider, modicon. but thats all I was able to gather on them. If anyone knows anything about sy/max 50 or even have a clue how to get into contact with Parking Systems Inc. I would surely appreciate it.

Sy/Max was manufactured by or for Square D Company in the mid-80's thru, I think, the early 90's. I remember being an apprentice and running miles of motor feeders and signal cables to them in packing houses. Unfortunately, I was an apprentice at the time so didn't get to learn much about them other than where to land conduits and wire into the cabinet, the JW's did all the terminating and factory rep's did the programming.

The Sy/Max 50 was made for Square D by IDEC during the 80's. While a lot of the IDEC FA2J (?) hardware is interchangeable the software and programing is not. The Model 50 was obsoleted at least 10 years ago. The software will not run on a Windows based computer, it needs a DOS operating system no faster than about 20MHz.

You might be able to find a hand-held programmer on e-bay. Another PLC website is www.plcs.net.

Sounds like a good time to sell em an upgrade. My software on my computer is rendered obsolete about every 5 years or so by the hardware producers. All of us sheep are very used to having this happen and we take it without much protest. Tell your customer he is in the same fix and don't let him whine to you about it.

you are not doing your customer any favor by keeping those old beasts. they have been obsolete for a long time. it is difficult to get spare parts and programming equipment is hard to come by.

a replacement brick style plc from any of several name brand manufactruers can be had for $200.
