Just got knocked down by an inspector for use
of a 2gang t-11 box. This box was mounted on a 4x4 cca post 18 ft from an inground pool. the 2 gang contains a switch for the pool light and outlet, both gfi breaker protected. Above this 2gang is an other 1 gang t-1l for a 20 amp twist lock outlet. I,ve been thru 680 Where does it say No galvanized boxes! This is the second time with this same inspector. My boss wants me to change the boxes on my time. I want to hear the code reason.

Shockare,

Does the conduit go right from your box to the pool light forming shell, or is there a Deck Box?

Re: T-11 box at pool pump

Bill this job is a local one here in West islip.
I had piped with 3/4 pvc from the panel to 4x4 post. On the post is a 2g t11 box with 1p switch & Gfi, piped out the top to a nema3r timer below that is a 1g t11 with the 20 amp twist lock for pump I then piped out the bottom another 40 feet to the deck box. Post with this setup is 18 ft from pool edge. Bonded 4 points of pool and pump
as well as the light shell.

I have read section 680.24 (A)1,2
"Be compprised of copper, brass, suitable plastic,or other corrosion-resistant material"

Are these boxes approved? In this inspectors mind the chlorinated pool water is going to leap from the pump filter to corrode the box.

Re: T-11 box at pool pump

Shockare,

That was where I was heading with the question. In the Catalog it says the Boxes have what is called a "corrosion resistant finish", but are they "comprised of" a corrosion resistant material?

It seems like a moot point here though because that code section (680.24(A)(1) applies to a junction box connected to a conduit that extends directly to a forming shell. That doesn't seem to be your situation.

Did he cite a particular section?

Bill
