T. 220.55 calculation

Note 2 to T. 220.55 states "Over 8 3/4 kW to 27 kW ranges". This note is used to calculate demand for ranges of unequal ratings. In the new 2017 handbook, an example calculation using note 2 (page 105), uses an 8 kw range as part of the calculation. Doesn't this note disallow the inclusion of ranges less than 8 3/4 kW in this calculation? If not, why wouldn't the note just say "ranges less than 27 kW"?

I agree with you. Technically you cannot average that range since it is under 8 3/4 however if you did you would have to use 12 kw for it so in reality it won't hurt but as a code question it is a mistake. I have not seen the question so there may be some info I am not privy to.
