Having to install some emergency lighting in a furnace area . We want to use a battery backup for a T8 light . Never wired one of these type ,do they need to be on a night light circuit ? Do they work as advertised , 90 min ?

The unit equipment must be supplied by an unswitched circuit. Also be aware that if this is an emergency light in compliance with Article 700, the circuit that supplies the unit equipment must be the same circuit that supplies the normal area lighting. (Check out 700.12(F))

Depending on your occupancy, you might think about how the emergency back-up is tested. I've seen lay-in fixtures where the EC has remoted a box with the test switch so the fire marshal and owner's personnel can test them easily. Any way to suggest ease of use might make you some extra money.

Google Bodine. Thats what we are using in the office at our shop. They are about 8 years old. I have had to replace a few of them but overall have been satisfied with their preformance. We have 3 lamp troffers with the Bodine on the single lamp and yes they do last 90 min. at reduced wattage.
