Please Correct me if I'm wrong but...

Thanks to the EPA (Enviromental Protection Agency) 2' x 4' Fluorescent Troffer fixtures are no longer available with Magnetic ballasts for use with F40 T-12 lamps!?!?

&

F32 T-8 Fluorescent Black light lamps do not exist!?!?

Does anyone know of a company that still sells the magnetic style troffer light fixture OR a company that manufactures an
F32-T8 Black Light Lamp???

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Dave

I've tried every store, supply house, and website I can find.
I've contacted Lithonia Lighting and Phillips... they all basically said "Good Luck".

There Must be a fixture/lamp combination that works. I can't believe it's now illegal to have new black lighting fixtures installed in clubs.

or is it?

I mean, I know black lighting is not efficent by any means but I would think it would be accepted as a "special purpose" type of lighting that the EPA would recognize.

Is anyone out there working on a similar job?

Anyone?

Tap-tap-tap... Is this thing on!?!?

)

I am working on a private bowling alley (9000 s.f. "game room building for a residence) where they want to use linear fluorescent pendants with both regular and black lighting. Same problem you have. I'm looking at Selux Artec S5 custom fixtures, but that's pronanly not an option for you. The only suggestion I have is to use 2 X 2 troffers with 24" lamps, which seem to be readily available.

Here's the skinny:
An OEM cannot manufacture T-12 fixtures anymore for new installations, only replacement. This went into effect about January this year. But there is an inventory at Lithonia of T-12 right now. So if you want them, (why?) go to your local Graybar, Hughes etc, and request the t-12's while they are available.

The black light lamps are listed in the Philips, GE and Sylvania catalogs, but these were published before the January T-12 mandate. Try the web sites The part number for the Osram is F40BLDRP.

WWW.Sylvania.Com and WWW.GE.com

Hope this helps

Dave,

If this is a new installation, I think you would be doing a dis-service to the client by installing something they will not be able to replace later, or if you have a call back 2 monthes from now because of something not working, you may not be able to get replacements yourself.

Regardless of why they are not available, use what is the current standard.

If this is a repair job, accept my apology, and ignore what I said.

Bill, thanks for the help but a F40BLDRP is a T12 lamp. That will not work in the new fixtures.

I already tried Hughes for the old style fixture but they said No!

I called Phillips, GE & Sylvania, no one makes the T8 black light lamp. Not even in the 24" so using the new 2'x2' fixtures is not even an option.

I do appreciate the replies though!

Dave

Kingpb,

Could you please tell me what IS the "current standard" (as you say) currently availble in Fluorescent fixtures and matching Black Light lamps?

Please!?!?

Dave

Martin, I can't find a 24" T8 or a 2'x'2 fixture with magnetic ballast.
It's the same problem. No old fixtures & No new bulbs. Nothing matches.

OK, here's one,
http://www.chauvetlighting.com/system/fixtures/blacklight48.html

Here's two,
https://ssl.adhost.com/noveltylights/merchant.cfm?id=5&step=2

here's three (yawn) slightly edited for sarcasm.....
http://store.phantomdynamics.com/blacklights.html

and finally- (saved the best for last)
http://www.aamsco.com/Specialty_Flourescent.htm#UVA

You have to remember these are considered special purpose, specialty effect, or stage lighting, so you have to look in the unconventional places, or suppliers that cater to those industries.

Hope that helps.

I'm lost.

I haven't heard of any new EPA regulations, but that's not saying much.

If I understand correctly, you want a single type of fixture that you can put either regular or black light lamps in? You don't care if its T8 or T12 as long as you can get black light lamps in that size?

And it sounds like you are saying black light lamps don't work with electronic ballasts?

If you go to one of the Big Box hardware stores around here, the basic light fixture is going to have magnetic ballasts. Electronic is an upcharge. But I'm not sure if that is T8 also, or just T12.

kingbp,
I really do appreciate your replies but none of your links are for "troffer" style light fixtures. I only see single bulb light strips.

A "troffer" fixture is one that's made to fit into a 2' x 4' opening in a grid ceiling. (Usually with 2 or 4 lamps in each fixture)

Thanks for the effort though, those websites might be helpful in the future.

Thanks again,
Dave

Problem Solved!!!

Problem Solved!!!

UPDATE!!!

I contacted a company (Activision) who claims they have 400 of the 4 bulb T12 troffer fixtures in stock and ready to ship out!!!
$50.00/each Ouch!!!

The local HD sells the F40T12/BLB lamps.

Problem solved!

Thanks to all!

Dave

Steve66: You won't find the magnetic ballast fixtures where you think you will! They've been replaced with the T8 fixtures & there are no F32T8 Black Light lamps to match the new Electronic fixtures. Thanks for the reply.

I guess I'm a little confused. The last link had 36W, 48", T-8 black light lamps, I thought that's what you needed for a 2' x 4' troffer?

BTW: They also come in a 3 lamp variety, not just 2 and 4 lamp.

You did link to T-8 BLB's, which is what he wanted, we thought.

Well, I think you did great. ;)

WoW! I totally missed that. I'm going to call them 1st thing tomorrow.
THANK YOU! I would much rather go with the T8 lamp if possible.

Thanks again,
Dave

If you can't get satisfied with fluorescent and if it can be engineered and if the price will fit in the budget, black light neon is available. There are two types. If you decide to pursue black light neon, ask for black light blue. It is expensive.
