I'm doing calcs for multiple ranges on a study guide. Notes 1-4 on table 220.55 say to increase 5% each additional kilowatt of rating "or major fraction therof".

I have a question. Is a major fraction therof any fraction above 1/2? That is my guess. Why aren't these things clear?

Please don't take this wrong, but a major fraction of a number has always been .5 or more. It is called rounding up. I think it is a matter of getting used to things in the NEC-- sometimes .8 is used as the round up as in the tables to chapter 9 :D

It is clear and is spelled out in section 220.5(B)
