i posted a ques about the above table but i am having trouble with my computer and dont know it maide on the site hate computers.try again. above table states a number 4 wire is rated at 100 amps and can be uaed for a 100 amp service for a single family dwelling.does any buddy still do this especially with all the new appliances be used now.unles you would do a load calulation. table 310.16 has different values for table 310 .15 b . 6 i guess it is code proper as it is shown in table 310 .15 . i think that this table should be changed a little
 
310.15(B)(6) does not say #4 is rated at 100 amps, it allows it to be 100 amp service entrance or main feeder conductors for 120/240v single phase serving dwelling units, it is because of load diversity.

I agree with Roger the diversity in a home allows us to use a smaller ampacity conductor. In reality that #4 will probably carry more than what the table rates it anyway.

Actually new appliances such as a/c are much more efficient and need smaller conductors compared to older lower seer rated units.
