Table 392.22(A) Multiconductor Cable Tray

Technical question for table 392.22(A):

Column 2 has the adjustment for Sd (sum of diameter) that is multiplied by '1.2' but where is that '1.2' coming from?

My best guess is that it allows some spacing of the multiconductors based on 1.2" for every 1" in diameter of a multiconductor.

Anyone with a NFPA membership that can ask to get a legitimize technical answer?
