Since im kind of new in the industry the question might b a silly to some of you.
But i will appriciate your assistance in this.

here is the scenario.
Contractor Installed a 6x6x4 SS Junction box with one 1.5 RMC Entering from one side and 2 RMC (1" and 1.5") from the side of the J.Box feeding the 30HP 3Phase motor and O/S Techometer.

I had an argument with the contractor that the Size of the J.Box he has isntalled is not in accordance to NEC which is the Box shall be 6 times the conduit Size + the additional conduits.

According to him he said. " These boxes are not being used as junction or pull boxes. they are being used as motor terminal housings because we are using wound rotor motor as called for. They have two points of access needed to make the necessary connections instead of the one shown on the contract drawings. These boxes are only used to direct the wire to the proper location on the motor and are not used to splice any wire. and the boxes are of adequate size according to Section. 430.12(B).

Can you guys please assist me if i am wrong or the contractor.
Besides is he violating article 312.8 by using tachometer in the same J.Box.

Thanks

Take a look at that code section(314.28). It doesn't apply to this installation.

#6 conductors----How many and what insulation? Are wires for O/S Techometer the same size? Are all the wires for same voltage?

Just noticed. Is that supposed to be tachometer?

THE WIRES ARE 6#6,1#10 AND 3#12 FOR MOTOR AND 1#16TSP AND 6#12 FOR TACHOMETER.

YES ALL OF THE WIRES ARE FOR SAME VOLTAGE AND THE WIRES ARE THHN TYPE.

HOPE THIS WILL HELP.
THANKS
