I've been trying to gather info for my PE exam, tips, and all... When I went to the Texas Board site to check for my qualifications, it said I need 10 more months.. so by that time, there will be an exam in April..
(1) is it too soon for me to take exam on that day?
(2) can I have all the paperwork done in time for the exam? (i.e. references, ethics test)
(3) best bet is the Oct exam so I have more time for studying?
thanks for all the help.
I haven't known many female PEs while working so it's a plus if I am becoming one.

I think the application process is more work then the actual PE test itself:grin: .
I think you should take it in april of 08, so that way you have almost a whole year to study.

oh, verification: I meant April 08 and Oct. 08... I'm very new to the industry but I want to get the PE thingy done and move on...
I agree the paperwork process is a long ordeal and I really hate that...

Most states require at least 5-years (4-years TX with BSEE, 8 for other qualified education)) of direct experience directly under a PE. You can take the FE exam while still in school, but the PE exam requires the experience first.

The board will be looking at your school and work time line , so make sure you have everything in order. 4 years of active practice in engineering work before filling for exam.

I found that sample exams with an answer book was every effective (That was back in '76). There were a lot of cases where I knew how to do a problem, but the answer was not exactly the same as they had in the book.

The format may be different now. It was eight written problems and you could pick from more than 100; and you could bring a suitcase full of references not including "problem and answer books".

There was always an economics problem for 1/8 of the exam (always some variation of a Net Present Value problem) but I don't know if that is still used.

FE / EIT Exam

FE / EIT Exam

I am currently in my last year in my BSEE program...

When is a good time to take my FE / EIT exam?

A number of friends said to take it while still in school. Most did, and few passed... even ones I respected that had very high grades and (what I thought) great knowledge did not pass.

Then my next question is: What is a good place to look to study for my FE / EIT exam?

Thanks,
Greg

On my own experience, I took it the first semester of my grad school, which was in Oct. 2002. I went to the prep course my school offered, bought some books to study along. Some friends of mine said to take it the last semester before you graduate, but with all the finals, paperwork and projects, I couldn't. It helps if you take it while in school when the knowledge is still fresh. Also depends on your schedule if you don't take lots of course. I went to school very much full time. Oh, study group is good. Hope it helps.

try PPI, I think those are the better one.
what is PPI? Sorry, I don't know much about acronyms..
I looked for some on-line, but couldn't tell if those are any good. I tried bookstores to see if they carry any, none, which is a shame.
