What kind of lights should I use on an 18' flat ceiling in a 17'x19' living room with a ceiling fan on a 3' down rod centered in the room? four high wattage recess cans or track lights on the wall level with the fan?There is only 2 walls to mount track lights on,other 2 walls have windows on one and staircase on the other.

Keep in mind of the chore that when the lamps burn out it will be hard for the home owner to change the lamps. Wall sconce work well as do wall mounted tracks even the low voltage type. There are hundreds of fixtures out there and a good lighting store should be able to point you in the right direction

After you get all the options together show them to the home owner and let them decide. It saves allot of headaches later.
