Can someone point me to the code section that requires tamper proof receptacles ? I can not seem to find it in the code book. Does it include GFCI receptacles too? Thanks in advance.

One could easily argue that it does not apply to any receptacle not specified in 210.52, such as receptacles in attics, etc. Having said that, it isn't worth carrying the different types in your truck, and it certainly isn't worth arguing the inspector over. :)

Oh I don't know, arguing with inspectors is one of my favorite past times.:D

Okay, in this corner we have an inspector from Utah, and in the other corner we have an inspector from Utah, we expect a clean fight......

Tamper Proof or Resistant?

Tamper Proof or Resistant?

Make sure you know what you really need. If you go to the parts house and ask for "tamper proof" they'll give them to you and smile when in the majority of cases all you really need is "tamper resisitant". The difference is a $1.50 receptacle or a $4.50 receptacle.

Remember the wording is "tamper resistant" not "tamper proof." The 2008 handbook image shows a receptacle that cannot be accessed one slot at a time, but when I was a kid, we always used bend open paper clips.
