I'm working with an existing GFI outlet in a garage. It's dedicated outlet on a 20A circuit for a freezer, power tool, etc. I'm looking to tap into the power before it reaches the outlet to run power up the wall and into the garage ceiling to power a ceiling fan (either by switch, or remote, not yet decided). To my knowledge, the fan does not require GFI connection, but I want to ensure that grabbing the power from this supply will not compromise the integrity of the GFI outlet, or violate code. Thank you for any assistance with my first post here.

That’s not a question we can answer as it depends on
your code cycle for permit and inspection, and it’s a DIY question which we can not answer per forum rules
