Tap good practice

I am tapping a buss supplying a transformer primary disconect. Is it bad practice to supply the line side of the disconect with a single 500mcm wire, and then come off the load side of disconect with parelled 3/0? For each phase. I have my reasons. There is allready an existing pipe to the tap point. And I think the 3/0s would be easier to work with in the transformer.

If the lugs are rated for it, I don't see anything wrong with it.

Thanks ! the lugs are rated for it. There are existing lugs on the tapped bus only rated for one wire. And even though the 500 is bigger than the 3/0 I think only having to work with one wire will be easier with the space I have. The new disconect which I asked about yesterday has lugs rated for either 1 or 2 wires. Would 3 500's or 6 3/0 be easier to work with in a 225kva transformer.

The #3/0's certainly would be easier to work with but you might need two raceways instead of one due to derating.

I'm with Karl on the 6- 3/0, however that transformer should have plenty of room for the 500 as well.
