Was wondering on thoughts of this setup and if a tap/tab boxis necessary or way to go. Following proposed by someone to feed a (2) 1600Apanels which are about 200’ away from each other. Coming off 2500A switch in switchboardwith (6) sets 4 #600 to a tap box 20’(installing disconnects) away then tappingand running to each panel.

IMO, sounds like a reasonable set-up. I doubt you could arrange for that many conductors to be connected directly to the 2500 amp breaker. An additional switcboard section might be another option.

If by "(installing disconnects)" you mean you are installing two fused disconnects, one for each panel, then simply run 4 sets of (4) 600kcmil to each disconnect... then continue to each panel. If the 2500A switch has bus plate terminals with 4 or 4 pair of holes, you should be good to go.

From 2500A switch to disconnects must meet the tap rule of 240.21(B)(2), or 240.92(B) if a supervised industrial installation.

Why is there a tap rule from 2500A to disconnects?

The setup I suggested is to run 4 sets 600kcmil from switch to each disconnect (total 8 sets)...

... otherwise, you have to run 6 sets to tap box then tap off all 6 to run 4 to each disconnect.

Or am I not getting the picture of what you are wanting to do correct?
