Tap rule question

50 amp welder receptacle in corner of garage fed with 6/2 nm, I'd like to tap off of it for a 240v 20 amp fused circuit in the opposing corner of garage. I haven't found anything stating this is an approved tap and I'd like to confirm my doubts here

If you put overcurrent protection at the welder receptacle end you would not have a tap in the NEC sense at all. Just a run of wire which is simultaneously part of a feeder and a branch circuit.

No I was planning on putting the ocp at the end of the run. It's over 25' so it's a no go
