In a case where you have a 1200amp service being fed with 5 sets of 600mcm for vd, to a main disconnect which feeds a 800amp CT cabinet with 4 sets of 500mcm out of same 1200amp disco, and a 400 amp 3 gang meter bank being fed from the same 1200 amp disco by 2 sets of 350 mcm for vd all 3 phase fed through a 400 amp rated tap box to 3 meters each being protected by 3 - 200 amps breakers do you need a 400 amp main switch for meters if you are in the 10 foot rule, I say yes, but I was told no due to the 3meters only going to draw maybe 80 amps per, but being protected at 200 amps per. confused

Well ive seen it both ways if you had a 1200 amp disc service feeding a gutter and then tapped each meter off that 1200 amp and each new service has its own meter and its own service disconnect .

But i have always seen a disconnect when you have a meterbank ahead of meters on a service .

Check with your power company rules as some states today make you put a disconnect ahead of a single meter that meaning a single 200 amp or less 480 v 3 phase service its sometimes yes and no .
