Hi,
I am doing a job that has 18, 30 foot tapered light poles going right down a row at 100 foot seperation. I have had survey dial in my centerline and my spacing. I have also leveled my anchor bolts. I have installed the poles and they look pretty good. I have a few that look a bit out but, its tough to say with considering the taper and the distance. Does anybody have a fast way to level out a tapered pole? I know I can use a plumb-bob, but just wondering if anybody has some cool idea that I have not thought of. I also have survey people at my disposal. Maybe you just use your eye? Thanks for any ideas!

On extruded poles, the taper should be uniform. Plumb one pole, using a transit. With a 4 foot masons level, shim top end until plumb vial bubble is centered. Use tape to hold shim onto level frame.
Use this level on all poles. Check and adjust from two directions 90? apart, on a 45?angle of base.
You can use a transit to set them all, but it takes longer.

To add to Bennies ideas.

1)18" to 24" string with a weight held out at arms length between your eyes and the pole.

2)Use a standard level and move it from one side to the other until the bubble is "off" the same amount on both sides.

3)If the poles are of good quality leveling the base plate will do it.

If you have a lot of poles to do it might be worth while to buy a plumbers level, they have an adjusting screw on one end so you will not need shims. Once you get one pole set with the transit, you can put this level against the pole and adjust the screw to the right pitch. Once this is done you can use the level alone for the rest of the poles.

This was the best picture I could find but you can see the screw at one end.
