Is there any limit to the amount of times a receptacle branch circuit can be tapped?

Can an existing home run for a receptacle circuit be tapped and brought to a junction box and at the junction box be tapped again with a wire that feeds an additional couple of receptacles?

I don't believe there is anything in the NEC that limits either the number of receptacles on a branch ckt or how many times you splice into the branch ckt to feed those receptacles. The often heard 8, 10 or 12 rec per bc limit is strictly a preference- it's a design issue.

So to answer your question- yes, you can do that.
