I'd like to install an outdoor security flood light above my garage door. My thought is to tap into the outlet above the garage opener and run a conduit to where the light will be mounted. I'm just not clear on the 2017/2020 NEC that says "this circuit shall have no other outlets". Someone posted here https://forums.mikeholt.com/threads/outside-outlets-allowed-on-a-garage-circuit.2556454/post-2613591 and says:
In the case of the garage, the "no other outlets" means no lights in the garage or any outlet that is not a receptacle. It can't leave the garage, so no crawl space. The rule says "20A circuit for receptacle outlets" not any outlets. The exception allows an outdoor receptacle on the garage if it's accessible.
I'm trying to decipher what this means. Is my plan okay or not okay? Would the flood light be considered an "exception" that is "accessible"? Appreciate the responses.
