Tapping off of disconnect?

Can a new device be fed from tapping off of a disconnect? For example..exsisting 50 A ciruit with disconnect, can a new 20A circuit be tapped out of the disconnect? Searching for art. in NEC.

The tap rules for branch circuits can be found in section 240.21(A) which refers you back to 210.19.

In general, the scenerio you describe is not permitted.

Thanks Brian! I guess if this was permitted, you would have very few "individual" branch circuits.
