Ok, the situation I have here is that we have a 3 phase drillpress, and a sub panel tap off the same feed.Well should the drill press be tapped off the subpanel?
The sub panel is rated for 100a with 3 to 4 20a cb to power up some misc. outlets. The circuit is rated for fifty amps feed with #6 thhn and protected with a fifty amp breaker. The sub panel is single phase 208.The drill press is tapped of the same feed plugged into 30a twist lock outlet.
Looked up in the code in section 430.150,and found at 208 volts a 5 horse motor should have around 16.7 FLC.Took an ampere load of 6 amps on each leg.
Being an older drill from the fifty's and trying to find info on the nameplate, and being high torque and low rev,I installed a 30a ampere 3phase breaker to protect the drill press, since before it was on a 50a breaker that fed a subpanel to begin with.
Now after the installation was complete, another electrician said it was perfectly legal before,
and there was no reason to change it.
Now I'm I missing something or is he correct?
It's my understanding that you have to properly size the ocpd or fuse motors.
Plz clarify!!!!!!!!!
