TBM6S crimper operation

Stupid question,

Just got this crimper and it's jaws do not fit over a 4/0 compression barrel with the handles fully open.
I am 100% sure that the proper dies are installed. (Purple & Olive upper and 13477 lower dies)
Am I supposed to slide the wire through the crimper, then insert the wire into the barrel lug and then crimp in order to get the crimper jaws off of the lug?
Should the bottom die be installed after putting the jaws around the lug?
If either are true, it makes it a lot tuffer and seems a poor design.
T&B has no specific instructions regarding this.

Make sure the dies are seated all the way down in the crimper. Check for a nick or a burr on the die. If you have the die turned slightly it will not seat properly. They are a real time saver!
