I have a project where I will locate a NEMA 4X enclosure inside a Class 1 Division 2 area. Inside this enclosure I will house a Class 1 Div 2 (potted) heater,
a Class 1 Div 1 explosion-proof instrument (with seal for incoming cable), and a Class 1 Div 2 rated (potted) temperature switch for controlling the heater.
The only other electrical component I have is a terminal block. I'm under the impression that a terminal block (whether DIN rail mounted or
panel mounted) is a non-arcing / non-sparking device which also does not generate heat under normal operating conditions therefore the
terminal block can be used inside this non-explosion rated enclosure.
I would also like to know if the same rules apply for a Class 1 Div 1 area if all my other electrical parts were rated for Class 1 Div 1 (and sealed where necessary) and only the TB was unrated.
All loads are rated at 120VAC except for the 24VDC instrument.
Thank you,
Lucas
