Does TC-ER cable have to be protected coming through the floor 8" to the ac head unit. I read that it has more of a crush resistance the code article seems a little gray.
A little is an understatment... "not installed where subject to physical damage", is too subjective. I would sleeve it in PVC conduit, probably sch 80 as 80 is listed for locations exposed to physical damage.
I would say it must be.
Art 336 states: Type TC-ER cable used as interior wiring shall be installed per the requirements of Part II of Arti cle 334. and 334.15 states: Where passing through a floor, the cable shall be enclosed in rigid metal conduit, intermediate metal conduit, electrical metallic tubing, Schedule 80 PVC conduit, Type RTRC marked with the suffix -XW, or other approved means extending at least 150 mm (6 in.) above the floor.
