We have a 7amp GE TEC breaker with TECL current limiting device rated 7amp.
attached to it. The tec cb has adjustable instantainious settings. Does anyone know if the TECL device is needed with the cb? The TECL device is a one shot device and was thinking on using fuses inplace of the tecl device because of cost. These are used in motor control units ,cb, starters etc.

thanks for the help

It sounds like you have a current limiting module attached to a 'magnetic' only breaker. This is a UL listed series combination intended to provide a higher fault current capability. I do not believe you can replace it with fuses. The only time it should operates is when you have had a relatively high short circuit. Given today's circuit breakers I am sure you could replace the the combined items instead.
