I have tele/data outlets that call for a ONE gang faceplate with ONE jack but then want a TWO gang box with a ONE gang collar. They are calling for 1 1/4 stub. Does a TWo gang box make sense??? Thanks. Maybe because of the conduit size but the ONE gang plate and TWo gang box does not seem right.

If they're actually asking for a 4" sq. box with a single-gang plaster ring on it, that's common enough. Besides, I don't think you're going to find anything less than a deep 4" sq. with a 1.25" KO or space for you to punch one.

Yes but a 2 gang box thery are asking for with a single gang faceplate. That's like two single gangs next to each other. How do you have a single gang faceplate???

they want a 4sq box (for room for bending radius and to coil extra cable in the box) with a single gang (via a single gang plaster ring) plate on it. This is more common than not. Only time I see single gang boxes for data is in houses...

I suggest clarifying this with the designer, but I doubt they're looking for 2-gang-wide plates with four mounting holes.

Your OP says "a one gang faceplate." To me, thay says one-gang plaster ring on a 4" sq. (which is 2 gangs wide.)

Thanks Wire and Larry. So a 4" is different than a single gang box??? So they can refer to a 2 gang box as a 4" box. I know....duhhh but thanks.

We have had this situaution and we requested a change from 1 1/4 to 1 conduit and got approved you might want to submit that then you could use deep boxes with 1in KOs.

Some locations have 6 & 8 cat 6 runs so maybe 1 1/4 is need there because of the quantity. Don't have a tele/data fill chart handy but I'll look.
