Hi Mike I am writing you in regards to some Cat-5-e cabling Ran through many of the older schools Air ducts through out the city of Detroit.
I Feel that in the event of a fire the cabling with in the ducts in the older schools will pump the fumes through class rooms and even the plenium rated CMP cable still will burn.
What code can I referance the installing contractors. Brian

Brian,
800.51(A) appears to permit the use of plenum rated cables in ducts provides that it is also listed as having adequate fire-resistant and low smoke-producing characteristics.

Check out 800-53 (a) out of the 99 code book. Seems to me that people do what they want with communication and get away with it.
