Telecomunications are restricted to 25lb limitation when pulling cable in conduit if this is the case how far between junction boxes are we limited to if we meet the 25lb requirement can this excede the 100ft limit

Re: TELECOMUNICATIONS

The NEC doesn't restrict the length of a conduit run between pull boxes. I think 100 feet came about as a rule of thumb.

If the conduit is within a building Article 800.48 would apply. It refers you back to Chapter 3 with the exception of conduit fill requirements. It does restrict the number of bends in one conduit run however and that generally necessitates a pull box every 360 deg. In a straight run pull boxes are installed to facilitate the pull and splices as necessary but there is no distance requirement.

If the conduit is buried it is not covered by the NEC however it is generally accepted that it be installed in accordance with Article 3 also.

I Guess older electricians established it as rule of thumb along time ago maybe because it made pulling wire easy Roger!

Thanks HBISS
