Generally speaking can telephone, data, TV, and speaker cables be installed in Sch 40 PVC in a place of assembly?

I seem to be going in circles. for example, NEC 2005 800.110 appears on the surface to say you can use any raceway that is permitted in chapter 3. But if you look up rigid nonmetallic conduit in 352.12 (F) - uses not permitted - it seems to say you can't use it. I realize the key phrase is probably "permitted in chapter 3", but...the code is so tiring... Thanks for any help, Collier

I think the fact that you are installing communications wiring is irrelevant. You are on the right track with 352.12(F). It refers you to 518 and 520. 518 and 520 only allow non-metallic wiring methods where it is encased in 2" of concrete or more.

Therefore, you probably can't use it.

Re: telephone, speaker, tv wiring in pvc - place of assembly

Section 518.4(A)Exceptions refers you to 640, 725, 760, and 800 as far as the installation requirements for special equipment, special conditions and communications. Art 640 addresses audio equipment and in 640.3(E) refers you back to Art 518 which exempts the wiring from the restricted wiring methods. Art 760 and 800 do not have the circular reference. So the wiring methods required by 640, 725, 760, and 800 are allowed to be installed in PVC provided it is in accordance with Section 352.12 Uses Permitted, (A) through (F).
