We have a generator that has just failed. We are bringing in a temp generator for about 2 months until repairs are made. Does anyone know if we can ground the temp generator using the existing building ground or will we be required to create our own ground, which would be a ground rod?
Thanks in advance, really under the gun here.

Jeff

If the generator is connected to the building via a transfer switch, and the neutral is not switched, then its not a separately derived system, and no ground rods are required, a system bonding jumper must not be installed. The bonding and grounding are done via the service disconnects main bonding jumper.
