We have a large project which has safety inspector employed by the general contractor. Our temp lighting is individual molded sockets with wire sticking out of them wired to the permanent wiring .He is stating we need supports on these sockets from the structure .....The molded sockets with 6 inch wire pigtails sticking out of them have guards but do not have hooks for hanging ( is this install against code ?

They could say it's a violation of 590.4 (F): In part it says: All lamps for general illumination shall be protected from accidental contact or breakage. Stating that it's susceptible to damage. My question: What does the manufacture instructions say. what's their recommendation for installing their product?
