Ok, I am helping estimate a 2 story new construction in Brooklyn, NY. I was told that Con Ed grabs power from somewhere and brings it to our temp meter/service and we take it from there. Does that sound right and does the utility do that in other states?

Also, are temp light stringers still most often used for TL&P?

Thanks.

Not around here, they don't just "take power" from "somewhere".

Here your temp power pole has to be within 5' of a padmounted xfmr. No matter how far that makes you stretch cords.

If it's fed over head, they have restrictions on placement of that too. I can think of 4 I did last year for new houses. They asked me to place all 4 within 5 ft of xfmr

And be careful with temp light stringers, the bulbs need guards

Thanks Mgraw and MC. Yes I know the temps need cages. MCclary so are you saying that you have to find a pad mounted an exisitng xfrmr somewhere near(hopefully) your site or do you mean the xfrmr is part of your temp service and you are furnishing it? Either scenerio seems odd.

Thanks.

Your situation could be different, but of those four, they already were nearby no you don't furnish them. I'm speaking of the POCO xfmrs. I had a GC question why I put my temporary service onthe other side of the driveway. This meant all trade cords came accross driveway. There was nothing I could do about it. They made me build the service within 5 feet of the xfmr.

If your service is overhead coned will pull to nearest corner of the building,if underground you must include an end-of-line box and a grc sleeve one foot past the property line, all information can be found in the coned blue book .
