Temp String Lights with Cages on the Floor/Slab

I apologize if I am in the wrong section, I was wondering if there are any OSHA or other safety violations for string lights with plastic cages to be lying on the ground for extended periods.

I’m not looking at the book, but I recall something about temporary wiring esp. nm-b needing to be installed at a height so not to be subject to physical damage. I don’t know if your temp lights also follow this same rule.

590.4(J) is close to what you're asking:

590.4(J) Support. Cable assemblies and flexible cords and
cables shall be supported in place at intervals that ensure
that they will be protected from physical damage. Support
shall be in the form of staples, cable ties, straps, or similar
type fittings installed so as not to cause damage. Cable
assemblies and flexible cords and cables installed as branch
circuits or feeders shall not be installed on the floor or on
the ground. Extension cords shall not be required to comply
with 590.4(J). Vegetation shall not be used for support of
overhead spans of branch circuits or feeders.

From OSHA perspective sounds like a trip hazard to me, unless you at least place it in a "restricted area".

I do a lot of 590 temporary power. However I have never put temporary lighting down near the floor. Not because I thought I couldn't code wise, but because nobody wants the temp lighting on the floor - they want it up.

But, if that is what is needed:

Infinity is correct - not on the floor. The fix is to lay down 2x4s, 2x6s, 2x(whatever), and staple the cable to the that. Gets it off the floor - meets code.

Then again, I don't know of any regulation specifically addressing plastic caged light strings
