I am installing a flush mount light fixture. The fixture requires 90 deg C wire minimum. The wire in the building doesn't have any temperature code on it (it is about 20 years old). It is labeled Hatfield-S Hatflex 2/C 12 AWG NM WITH GROUND 600V (UL). I have not been able to locate any information on this wire or on the manufacturer. Can any of you seasoned guys out there point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

The label on the sheath of the cable has to be "NM-B" for the conductors inside the sheath to have 90?C insulation. "NM" is 60?C insulation.

The requirement for NM-B to be made with 90? C conductors was introduced in the 1984 Code. Before that, the NM cable was marked NM since NM-B didn't exist. :D

Check 410.67.C Wiring. You can use the existing wiring if you install 18 inches or more of 90C wiring from the junction box to the fixture.
