That tool was brought up a while back in a thread. I thought I had one, so I hunted it up, and I do have one. It was in nearly brand new condition. I last used it maybe 15 years ago. I tried it again a few months ago in a home, and I remembered why I put it away back then. It's not very good. I was frustrated with it. The transmitter and the receiver both have dials you need to fuss with, and they're very finicky. You can get it dialed in and find your stuff, it has a good tone, but just fussy in general. Save your money and get an Amprobe AT-2005.

Wow!! Now that is good advice you get what you pay for most of the time. I have been beating that drum for a year now. The at-2005 is the best Take some time and learn how to use it. It is worth every penny. I have an older progressive btw it lives in the basement. They all do except for the greenlee which is a good bang for half the bucks.

Anyone tried this wire locating unit? I sometimes want to tap into circuits in walls and obviously do not want to bash a bunch of holes. Wondered if this thing would work at about 300 bucks.

I do maintenance on FEMA trailers in good ole south Lousyanna, and I use a Progressive Dynamics (formerly Progressive Electronics?) unit I got at Summit Electric Supply, which I later found for about $40 cheaper at Home Depot or Lowe's. Sells there for about $85-$100, and I've had great luck with it. Works great for finding wires in walls, under floors, etc. Might want to try it before you go plop down $300 for something nobody likes. Don't remember the model # off the top of my head, but it's blue and comes with a cordura case.

I just again used the amprobe 2005 to locate a buried box in wall that has been buried for over two years it took me about a total of 5 minutes to find the burried box and the longest time of 3 minutes was spent on me explaining to two other mechanics that I want to be perfectly clear that no one is to energize anything until My meter is clear. I poked a small screwdriver hole and hit a burried chimney then moved over 2 inches and hit the box dead square center. 5 minutes work and be the one who gets to say WHOS YOUR DADDY!! Customer was embarased because he insisted the outlets worked at one time. Priceless!!

Sounds good, now whats a right click? MACmikeman...
I'm envious. I had a Performa 6400, w/OS-9x, and couldn't afford to replace all the software an OS-X-compatible Mac would have cost, so now I'm a Win-doze user. However, I use W2K-Pro and will fight tooth-and-nail to avoid going any higher.
