does any manufacturer make a vinyl/plastic cover for a 350mcm sized split bolt.
an upcoming job requires we temporary splice existing conductors, sized from 4/0 to 350 mcm, together to supply a temporary main distribution panel while we replace the old with new gear, we're looking to eliminate the time consuming process of taping the split bolts, then un-taping the connections during the outages to re-connect the circuits onto new main distribution panels.
we have run 14 sets of conductors from our temporary distribution panel into the basement below the switch gear room, where we'll drop the existing circuits down into to make the temporary splices. this is a secure room with controlled access from a man door in the locked main electrical distribution room. a question was asked if the split bolts could be left un-taped, mounted to an insulated rack system of some sort. profit will never replace safety for my men and the customer, so i'll do whatever is code/ best.
