I don't have my NEC here right now so I might be off on my code sections. Article 527 states that unless specifically allowed or prohibitted by art.527, all other articles apply. What about 406.8(?) for "bubble type" covers. Any one been red-tagged for temporary wiring that doesn't comply with that? And what about 110.16 for arc-flash sigange? I think I would have a hard time asking for it as an inspector. Any thoughts?

Re: Temporary covers

Hi Ryan,

406.8 is a definite.

Some will complain about 110.16 because the panel is often an older re-used panel at a temp power location. However, the arc-flash stickers are readily available!

Re: Temporary covers

We will use bubble covers on any temp outlets that have a good chance of getting wet.

Defiantly ones installed outside but sometimes inside if the building is not tight enough.

A typical setup for us would be a two gang bellbox containing GFCI and Duplex outlets covered with a bubble cover.

It is hard to get a decent bubble cover that stands up to a construction environment and can close over four 12 AWG cords.

If you read the instructions for many bubble covers like the one below they say 16 AWG or 14 AWG cords.

I have never installed or have seen arcflash signs on temps but maybe I should start.
